Adamthwaite Archive

"The website IS the one-name study!"

As always, the information shown is known to be incomplete, particularly for soldiers, sailors and airmen who served in WWII.   If you can help with more information about any of your ancestors who feature on these pages or tell me about any who are missing from the lists, please let me know.  We would also particularly welcome any recollections of war service which have been passed down within families.

Sources:  Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), WW1 Campaign Medals and Register of Seamen’s Services (on-line documents from the National Archives), WW1 Pension Documents (Ancestry), London Gazette, US Draft Registration documents(Ancestry), National Archives of Australia, Canadian Attestation Papers

Sadly, the  Pathe News footage from WW1 with commentary by Stanley Holloway which was originally linked here is no longer accessible, but searching on Google for 'Time to Remember' 1916 will produce several videos you can watch on Youtube.

Adamthwaites in Uniform

Many members of the Adamthwaite family have served their country in war and in peacetime - some made the highest sacrifice and are honoured in cemeteries at home and in the battlefields.  You can find out more at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website .  I hope these pages can serve as a small tribute to their bravery.
