Background information on this line – see chart showing y-DNA carriers for this line
This line of Adamthwaites is headed up by John Adamthwaite and Isabel Keasley, who had six children, including two sons, James and Thomas.
Known branches with living descendants:
OLIVE Line 1: descendants of James Adamthwaite and Sarah Fothergill (m.1789)
This couple had two known sons and a daughter. The only known branches of this line to still have living male Adamthwaite descendants are: Line 1a: descendants of James Adamthwaite and Ann Carter (who married in 1866 in Crook, Co Durham). We believe there are still a number of living descendants of this branch living in the UKLine 1b: descendants of George Adamthwaite and Jane Hawker Wilkinson (who married in 1870 in Co Durham). It is not thought that there are any living male descendants from this line.Line 1c: descendants of William Adamthwaite and Mary Jane Houghton (who married in Australia). There are known to be a number of male descendants of this line, probably still living in NSW, Australia. We have recently received test results from a member of this line
OLIVE Line 2: descendants of Thomas Adamthwaite and Mary Pearson (m.1774) This couple had four sons, however only one of them – Edmund Adamthwaite who married Ann Stout – is thought to have fathered branches which have continued to survive to the present day:Line 2a: descendants of John Adamthwaite and Sarah Nicholson (who married in 1846). This couple emigrated to Australia and settled in Victoria, where there are thought to be several living male descendants.Line 2b: descendants of Joseph Adamthwaite, who also emigrated to Australia where he married Emma Smith in 1864. Descendants of this couple still live in Victoria or Tasmania.
We would very much like to recruit a volunteer from OLIVE line 2 (either 2a or 2b) to compare their results with those received from our representative of OLIVE line 1. In the event that this comparison shows no clear match,we would then need to look at testing members of other branches of this line.
