                        J A Adamthwaite.

Wm H J Stratford. J Rowland. Martha Dimmock [note 1].

Proved at London 17 Sept 1850 before the worshipful James Parter Deane Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oaths of Robert Gibson Esquire and Alexander Ridgeway the executors to whom administration was granted having been first sworn duly to Administer.

Note 1:  there is some mystery as to the identity of Martha Dimmock, one of the witnesses to this will. In the 1841 census she was a servant in John Allen Adamthwaite's household - however following the death of John Allen Adamthwaite (his wife Susan had died a few years earlier), by the time of the 1851 census the four Adamthwaite boys had become wards of Martha Dimmock and were living with her in Stoke Newington. If you know more, please let us know!

Note 2: Although we hold a death certificate and burial record for James Adamthwaite in 1859, a James Theophilus ADAMTHWAITE appeared on the records in Texas in 1876 and we have received sufficient evidence that he is the son of John Allen ADAMTHWAITE and Susan his wife - we believe that the first recorded death in 1859 was fraudulent, possibly created by the one remaining surviving brother in order to claim his inheritence  - see the article 'A tale of Tragedy, Bigamy and Intrigue' to find out more
