"The website IS the one-name study!"
Have you been helped by the information on this site? If you would like to contribute to the cost of our DNA project, just £10 would help towards the cost of DNA kits!
Although the cost of y-DNA testing has come down over the years, it is still not cheap! In order to have meaningful results, it is best to use a 37 marker tests and even with the discounted price for a One-name Project, these currently cost
US$149 for a male yDNA 37 marker test (in May 2017, this was equivalent to £119, but in the UK the Exchange rate is fluctuating widely since Brexit! For other countries, it is best to double check the prices when you are ready to order a kit)
However, I am now able to purchase 37 marker yDNA kits through the Guild of One-name Studies at a price of £95 (sterling), which works out cheaper than even the sale prices at ftDNA. And I am holding two kits that are available ABSOLUTELY FREE to the first two eligible men to volunteer from lines where we need a first or second tester (see previous page). The Guild also offers Family Finder autosomal DNA kits for £58 sterling (these cost $79 from ftDNA| - roughly £63 sterling).
Once the last two Free yDNA kits I am holding have been taken up, I hope to be able to continue offering a 50% subsidy to all further Adamthwaite males who wish to represent their line (providing they do not belong to a branch that has already tested - there is little point in testing brothers or 1st cousins with yDNA tests) using donations made by Adamthwaite members. The more results we obtain the easier it will be to discover how long ago any common ancestor may have lived.
All test samples are held by the company for 25 years, and can be upgraded at any time for a further fee.
We are a comparatively small one-name study – and have only a limited number of potential male direct line Adamthwaite descendants for testing. Realistically, we are unlikely to find more than about 10 - 15 people to test. So, for most of us, we can only stand by and wait for (or encourage) someone else to agree to be tested. But we can all help by making a small financial contribution towards the costs of the tests! After all, we will all benefit from the research findings.
BUT, there is a logistical problem regarding the Funding for DNA tests using donations:
Family Tree DNA offers a secure fund holding service – so if you would like to contribute to the cost of a kit from ftDNA in $US dollars, please visit the following site to make your donation: www.familytreedna.com/contribution making sure that the payment form specifies that the donation should be held by the ‘ADAMTHWAITE DNA project’. However, I can only actually use money donated into this fund to purchase DNA kits or upgrades direct from Family Tree DNA. But ftDNA regularly hold Flash Sales, when I buy as many kits as we can afford [As at 28 may 2017, we currently hold just $3.55 in the Adamthwaite General Fund at ftDNA!]
The Guild of One-name Studies is now able to offer cheaper kits, through an agreement with ftDNA, BUT these have to be paid for in £sterling. So I have set up a PayPal Donation Fund for our Adamthwaite Project, which can be used by anyone wishing to make a one-off donation (every £10 helps!) or by anyone wishing to pay all or part of the cost of the cheaper Guild DNA kits.
PayPal Adamthwaite FUND (held in £ sterling) Donations into this fund would be particularly welcome, so that I can purchase cheaper yDNA test kits and offer them at a 50% subsidy to yDNA testers. You can also use this Fund to pay in the cost of Family Finder kits, which I can then order to be sent directly to your home address by the Guild.
Click on the above button to make a payment into our Adamthwaite Fund for the purchase of yDNA and Family Finder kits. Particularly if you are making your payment to purchase a DNA kit, it is crucial that you use the 'specific instructions to seller' option enter your full name, email address, the Adamthwaite line to which you belong, and whether you wish to purchase a yDNA kit or a Family Finder kit.
Any donations - however small - made by any Adamthwaites to help ensure that we can subsidise the cost of yDNA kits for male direct line descendants of lines where we still need testers, will be most gratefully received!!
If you are a male Adamthwaite and would be willing to be tested as part of the Adamthwaite DNA Project, please contact the Project Co-ordinator using the Contact form on the left, to find out how we can help with funding for the test - it is important that you make contact BEFORE you complete the test order form, to make sure that you receive your contribution from the Adamthwaite fund!
