Re: Mark Adamthwaite ORANGE line
Hi, My great grandaunt was Lucy Toghill Poppe who was, evidently, the 2nd wife of Mark. Lucy was already a widow by the time of her 1912 marriage to Mark and on the 1920 census of Mount Vernon NY, she is again listed as Lucy Poppe, widow. My first thought was that Mark had died and she was again a widow but couldn't figure why she was listed as Poppe -- not Lucy Adamthwaite.
Then I found your website and now I'm not really sure of what to make of this -- did she and Mark divorce and she went back to her previous married name -- or did she discover they were not 'really' married and dropped the Adamthwaite name -- or ??? I have not been able to find a death record for her but she was definitely alive and well on the 1920 census so HE was not a widower via her.
I would be most interested in any further information that may come up about Lucy & Mark -- especially a photo if anyone may have one of Lucy. My grandfather came to stay with her in 1905 when he emigrated from England but we have no photos of other family members.
Regards, Kathleen
