1756 : Will
In the Name of God
Amen. I William Adamthwaite of Adamthwaite in the Parish of
Ravonstondale and County of Westmorland calling to mind the uncertainty
of this present life and that it is appointed unto all men once to die
do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following
first and principally recommending my soul into the Hands of God hoping
for the pardon of all my sins alone through the morils and mediation of
Jesus Christ and desiring my body may be buried in a decent Christian
manner at the discretion of my loveing wife not doubting but I shall
receive the same again at the General Resurrection by the Almighty power
of God and as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to
bestow upon me in this Life I give and bequeath and dispose of the same
as followeth:
First I give to my
daughter Elizabeth the wife of John Ffawcet Two shillings and sixpence,
also I give to my daughter Mary’s children two shillings and sixpence
equally amongst them. Also it is my will that my loving wife have the
tuition of my three children I have by her, and that she pay all my just
debts and funeral expenses and above said legacies out of my personal
estate and the remainder of my personal estate I give equally to my wife
and her three children, viz William, Margaret and Isabel.
And I hereby appoint
and constitute my said loving wife and her three said children joint
executors of this my last will and testament to which I set my hand and
seal this fifteenth day of july 1756.
