July 2007 NEWSLETTER (circulated to members of the Adamthwaite mailing list on Rootsweb)

Apologies for the lack of a June Newsletter … our youngest daughter got married at the end of June so I was otherwise engaged! There are several new items on the website, all of which you can find in the Miscellany section:

  • History of the Quambatook Adamthwaites 1878-1978 – this wonderful article was written in 1978 by Vida Adamthwaite and published as a Centenary booklet at the time (some of you may have copies).  It has recently been updated by Elizabeth Adamthwaite and she generously agreed that we could publish the first part of the book on the website.  The second part contains family trees which include a number of living individuals so would not be appropriate to include.
  • Rhoda’s story – Toni Dickens has compiled family memories and photographs of her much loved mother-in-law growing up in Leeds
  • Adamthwaites in uniform – since so much information has become available on-line about world war records, I have been putting together a table of all known Adamthwaites who served in the army, navy and airforce.  It is now as complete as I can make it and needs more information from all of you about other individuals who should be included.  In particular, it would be wonderful to be able to include photographs of all those mentioned.  Take a look and see if there are any names you recognise and please send me all additions, corrections, etc together with photos if possible.

BMD and Census updates I am just waiting for a batch of certificates to arrive and then I will be updating all the spreadsheets – don’t forget, if you have got any birth marriage or death certificates to send me the details so that we can confirm the information on the website.

Photo Gallery  we have now got such a good selection of photographs of Adamthwaite ancestors and places where they lived, that I am looking at other ways of presenting the photos in a more accessible way.

Adamthwaites in the Workhouse  Bob is working on an article about this, so if anyone has more information about members of their family lines that would be relevant, please contact him directly.

Obituaries  Some time ago, several obituaries were circulated on the mailing list.  I plan to put these on the website (or at least those that relate to individuals who died more than twenty five years ago) – so if you have any others you would like to contribute for inclusion, please send them to me.

Sue
